There is no denying that Water Operators play a tremendous role in accelerating the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals especially the SDG 6 pertaining to water and sanitation. Capacitating Water Operators through the Water Operator Partnerships (WOP) is crucial to bridging the gaps and sourcing greater expertise from those Operators.
The African Water and Sanitation Association (AfWASA), being the WOP Coordination platform for Africa, has recorded a significant improvement of performance of African water utilities that undertook the WOP model since the beginning of that coordination in 2008, where some of the mentees utilities have become mentors spread in the various sub-regions (northern, Western, central, Eastern and Southern) and currently, the most performing ones have been selected to play the role of AfWASA’s Regional Implementing Partners (REIPs) order to spread the WOP movement at the scale of the continent.
During the GWOPA Conference, AfWASA is convening a session, on the 23rd of May 2023, to reflect on the journey of WOP Africa and its future perspectives, with an emphasis on the Sanitation aspect which is still lagging the sector on the continent.
The session will be co-convened by: National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), Uganda; Ethiopian water utilities Federation, Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Ghana and VEi from the Netherlands. It will be made of presentations, a panel discussion as well as the Question & Answer.
